He Stoops Down to Make Us Great

Christmas is here. It seems to have come so quickly this year. I love buying and giving presents to those I love. I love time with family and friends, but I try hard to keep my eyes on the Lord. Christmas is when we celebrate that the Lord of all the earth came to the earth as a baby to take away our sins.

The truth that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him would have everlasting life is such an amazing thing. Words don’t do it justice. When we take time to meditate on that truth it’s humbling beyond words. The offer too belong to God as His child because His one and only child, who is God, came to this earth is the ultimate gift. I urge you to take time to really ponder that. He left Heaven to come as a baby, to live a human life with all that comes with that. It’s mind blowing.

He didn’t come for himself, He came for you and me. He came so we would have a way to the Father. Ephesians 3:14-21 TLB, “When I think of all of the wisdom and scope of His plan, I fall down on my knees and pray to the Father of all the great family of God.” His plan of redemption is so great, so awesome, and it starts with a baby. For many years we’ve sung silent night at church or listened to it as we enjoy Christmas music, but I doubt seriously it was a silent night. A teenage girl, giving birth in basically a barn, with animals around and with all that comes childbirth seems more like a crazy night. But the fact that He came is what’s so humbling.

One of my favorite scriptures is Psalm 18:35. Each version of the Bible is different but the one in the NCV says, “You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.” In other translations it says your gentleness makes me great, or your humility made me great. This is a Psalm of David and it’s about God rescuing him from trouble. But, isn’t that what He has done for each of us through salvation. He humbled Himself, stooped down, coming from Heaven to make you and I great by making a way to the Father. I am extremely grateful for that!

Let’s decide to get through the holidays with grateful hearts. My prayer is for you  to have the best Christmas ever, hopefully surrounded by those you love. But, if not please know the Lord is right there with you no matter what.

Merry Christmas!
